Facts about Adrian
Located in Malheur County, Adrian is a small city that's near the point where the Snake River and the Owyhee River meet. The most recent population figures (for 2021) put the population at 256, an increase over the 2010 population of 177. A full incorporation as a city took place in 1972.
Adrian's origins are traced back to 1913, when the city was first platted. Reuben McCreary designed the platting, and suggested the name in honor of his native city (Adrian, IL). By 1915, the Riverview post office that was situated on the opposite side of the Snake River, was moved to Adrian.
The name was once attributed to James Adrian, a sheep rancher who moved to the area in 1916. However, the name for the settlement was chosen a few years before.
Modern-day Adrian boasts an elementary, middle, and high school. Several state highways run near or through Adrian, providing the city with ample connections to the surrounding areas.
