Facts about Adel
Found in the southeastern area of Lake County, Adel is an unincorporated community with a relatively low population. Most estimates indicate just over 200 people reside there.
One of the distinguishing characteristics of the community is Warner Valley, which surrounds Adel. The Valley is home to a number of marshes and shallow lakes that fill and drain, based on the precipitation in the area each season.
Crump Lake is the single largest lake in the Valley, encompassing more than 7,600 acres. A number of birds and other wildlife are present in the area. The lake proper provides plenty of recreational activities for the locals and any visitors, including camping, and fishing, Bird watchers will also find the area ideal for pursuing their hobbies.
Adel began to take shape in the latter 19th century as a great location for raising cattle, and for sheep grazing. More recently, the community has developed a stable infrastructure that features a post office, an elementary school, and a Roman Catholic parish. There's also a multipurpose establishment known as the Adel Store. It serves as a restaurant, a bar, and a grocery store, along with being something of a social hub for the community.
